Writer's Block: Reflections Dec. 30th, 2009 @ 08:12 pm

What are your fondest memories of 2009? What were the low points? All told, what were the most significant events of 2009? Do you wish you could do it all over again?

low points? The floods probably count. The results of which are still ongoing.

High points? Rhys visiting, and Nightwalker and I losing sleep for nearly a month solid (November) chatting online. And a special late Christmas present.

This year can fuck off and die already. But Mayon Volcano can make it go out with a literal bang with a big eruption.

Seems that the terror-failure's dad went to the US embassy to voice his suspicions that his son may have been up to something, but beyond that, had no real evidence, apparently. Still, to go and try turn his son in. That takes heart, balls and a spine.

“How did you get so good at that?” Wilson asked, passing a hand over his sweat-covered brow.

House panted, his body shaking with adrenaline. “Are you kidding?” He smiled. “I’ve been waiting my whole life for this.”

Shadowdancer's Notes: I wrote this some weeks back, because, well, the character's story was nice enough to flesh out some more. I'm honestly rather tempted to write out some other backstory as well, even if it's largely for my own entertainment.

The character's author, [info]lightsider, liked this retelling, so I hope it's enjoyed, even if the character is largely unfamiliar to my current group of readers.

On with the story )

Two things came to mind upon reading the article title:

"*thought of terrorist: Merry Christmas, infidels" and "...Attempting to recreate Lockerbie on US soil?"

And before people say it's not possibly a Jihadist:

Nigerians have not figured in many cases involving Al Qaeda, but the rise of violent Islamic extremism in that country, and in sub-Saharan Africa overall, concerns Western anti-terrorism officials.

for further clarification, in case people think 'no Africans don't join in Al-Qaeda', thanks to [info]oronoda : read here

Also: still, really, no matter what the Muslims say... WHAT BACKLASH?

Veteran journalist appointed to burnish the image of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao

You're going to try and make shiny the image of a region that's been so badly corrupt since the days of it's 'founder' / first governor, Nur Misuari, who seriously, seriously needs hanging.

I feel terrible for you.

I has internets, the kids are happy with their presents, and Vincent hasn't come into the house since his toy tent was set up outside in the yard on the other side of the house. I also just got off the phone, deciding that well, since my loyalty line to the DSL gives me 1/2 rate on international phone calls to Australia, I'll give the family there a ring. Rhys was very pleased, and asked if the Happy Holidays / Merry Christmas greeting in Hawaiian Nightwalker-kun asked to have passed on got through, and I told him it did.

I actually got to talk to Nights a bit before he went off for Christmas Eve celebrations, presumably with family; while the DSL tech and I were poking with the net. The tech changed my modem with a new model (Still a zyxel, I'm afraid, but slightly upgraded) and we gave him a Christmas thank you gift of a pot of jam and a can of mixed nuts, which he was very surprised and pleased to get.

We're waiting for the delivery of lasagna to arrive for our Christmas lunch and we have a Black Forest cake from Red Ribbon.

I'm happy. I have internet. This means I can talk to Rhys later. I'm happy, for a change. It's not a perfect Christmas, but it's a good one (Last year's was a complete downer of a Christmas.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

Love, Shadowdancer / Rory / Aurora

Happy advance birthday to [info]nathanbp and [info]samhain_dream

Could it be the DSL techs are giving me a nice Christmas present and fixing my DSL today? Merry Christmas to me if so! And I @)#$@# hope it STAYS PUT. But we'll try figure out why it went and died first.

The kids had a pleasant time opening pressies, but, as is predictable, Vincent found the bubble wrap the most absorbing thing for about half an hour.

Running out of juice on the portable wifi one. damnit. okane de wa nai. I hate not having internet. I really do.

Edit: I should note that the main internet has completely ceased to communicate with the main server. It tries to connect whenever I'm talking to someone on the PHONE. I am beginning to think it may be an issue with the modem. >.<#### bloody hell.
